N2 Northbound Claire Road Bridge

10 people were injured this morning, 3 of which were in a serious condition
after a collision occurred on the N2 North bound, near Claire Road Bridge.
It is believed that a truck was travelling along the busy stretch of
Freeway, when it is alleged that he hit a pedestrian. The driver came to
stop in the emergency lane, to go and see if the pedestrian was okay. The
driver of the 1 tonner Bakkie
came around the corner and was unable to stop
in time and collided into the back of the truck.

When ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene, they found patients sitting up
against the Armco Barrier and members of public were using a pick axe to try
and free the driver and passenger who were entrapped in the
bakkie. The
driver and passenger were entrapped due to the dash board was pushed up
against there legs. Fire department had to use the Jaws of Life to free the
men. Both men had multiple injuries and fractures; they were stabilized on
the scene and were transported to hospital in a serious but stable
condition.


The other 6 men sustained minor to moderate injuries and were transported
threw to Addington Hospital. The pedestrian who was walking around on scene,
started to deteriorate, it was found that the truck had stuck the man with
such a force that his lung had collapsed. He was rushed off to Hospital were
he is recovering well from his injuries.
