17 Injured in Taxi Smash

The driver of a taxi is in a critical condition after his taxi's wheel apparently burst on the highway. The taxi overturned several times before landing on its wheels in the middle of the highway.

An ambulance which was travelling in the opposite direction noticed the accident just after it occurred.

Paramedics from numerous services raced to the scene to treat the injured people. The driver sustained multiple head and chest injuries. Advanced Life Support techniques were initiated in order to save his life on the scene.

16 other occupants were flung from the vehicle. Paramedics found them scattered next to the taxi. Amongst the injured was a three year old boy. He sustained injuries to his arms and legs.

All of the occupants were treated for multiple injuries on the scene and transported by ambulances to nearby hospitals.

The Johannesburg Metro Police will be investigating the accident. No other vehicles were involved.

ER24, Netcare, Province and Hatzolah attended to the patients.
