Six Year Old Knocked Down

A six year old boy is in a serious, but stable condition after he was apparently knocked over by a bakkie in Industria, West of Johannesburg this morning.

Paramedics were called to the scene where they found the little boy lying in the road. According to bystanders and the driver of the bakkie, the child ran across the busy road with no warning.

The boy was treated on the scene for a possible fractured arm and head injury. Paramedics stabilized him on the scene and transported him to the Chris-Hani Baragwanath Hospital for further medical treatment.

Bystanders on the scene explained that is not the first time that children get knocked over in the area due to the fact that they just run across the road without observing the traffic flow.

The middle-aged driver of the bakkie who allegedly collided with the child was not injured during the accident.

It is understood that the boy, who was still in school uniform, was on his was to a nearby school. His parents could not be reached on the scene. The Johannesburg Metro Police Department will try to locate the parents or a next of kin.

ER24 Emergency Services caution the public and pedestrians when crossing any road. An accident happens in a split second. Children should be accompanied by adults where possible and pedestrians must try to cross at a dedicated pedestrian crossing whenever possible.
