Streaker on 14th (Valentine?)

About 07h30 on 14 February 2007, people – most of them women – arrived at the ER24 base at the Flora Clinic to ask for unusual assistance. We were informed of a young man running in front of cars and up and won the road naked. Paramedics turned out to the corners of 14th Avenue and William Nicol, where the base is situated and the streaker was running up and down.

Indeed the paramedics found a young man, believed to be a security guard and 20 years of age, naked in the street. At that moment the public saw red, not because of trouble or Valentine’s, but ER24 paramedics running after the man trying to catch him. It took almost five medics to finally catch up with him and the security guards from SPE security joined us.

The man was then taken to the side of the road, where his clothes were and quickly dressed.

Upon enquiring why he was doing what he did, he started screaming and then singing. He was assessed by paramedics and then transported by the Roodepoort Police Dog Unit to the station.

The man had a security uniform with him from a private company and a couple of business cards. The employer was contacted and informed us that he – the streaker – ran away from the site where he was working almost three weeks ago. He never returned to work. The employer said he was employed at one of his Potchefstroom branches.

The man sustained no injuries. Traffic was slow in the intersection due to all the onlookers.
