20y/o Dies in Crash on eve of his 21st

A 20 year old man have died and two were left critical after a horror car crash on Northumberland Drive this morning. (01h20 - 14 April 2007)

It appears that a dark colored vehicle was travelling near the intersection of Northumberland and Hans Strijdom Drives when the vehicle apparently collided with the middle island of Northumberland. The vehicle was sent of in the direction of a Total Garage on the corners of Hans Strijdom and Northumberland after colliding with rocks next to the road.

Paramedics from ER24 and Life Fourways Healthcare quickly determined that the 23 year old driver still had his safety belt on whilst in his seat and was in a critical condition. The driver and his 22 year old front passenger sustained massive injuries. Both of the front occupants had to be rescued through the drivers door with the assistance of ER24 and Life Healthcare paramedics.

A 20 year old passenger was found mangled between the rear seats of the car. The 20 year old was still entrapped between the seats and could not be removed from the wreckage. It was determined by paramedics that he sustained major and multiple injuries. He was declared dead on scene due to the extend of his injuries. The fire department had to use the jaws-of-life to free the body of the young man from the wreckage.

It appears that the vehicle received full impact on the passenger side.

Paramedics established that the 20 year old would have celebrated his 21st birthday on the 15th of April 2007.

Paramedics from ER24 and Provincial EMS transported the two critical patients to the Life Fourways Hospital where they will be receiving further medical management for their injuries.
