One Die in Freak Accident - KZN

At approximately 04h25 on Sunday morning ER24 paramedics raced to a reported accident where a Toyota Hilux had crashed into a house on Bale Street, Woodlands.

Upon arrival, emergency services found a silver Toyota Hilux that had veered violently off the road and landed down an embankment on top of a house. The driver of the vehicle, Buyani Zondi (28) who lived 200 metres from where the accident took place, died on impact. His passenger was lucky to walk away from the accident without injury. Metro Fire-fighters & ER24 Advanced Life Support Paramedic, Neil Noble, had to free the body from the wreckage using the Jaws of Life. The immense force of the crash bent the protective roll bar out of proportion.

Residents from the house were uninjured, despite a large portion of the roof collapsing into a room. It is clear by the position of the vehicle and the extent of the damage that the two young men were travelling at high speed for prevailing road conditions. Residents from adjacent houses claim that it is not the first time that cars have lost control and landed up in their gardens. They insist that despite petitions and frequent requests for speed bumps to be placed on Bale Street, they have been denied because the street in question is on a bus route.
