'Hijacker' Shot By Police

An alleged hijacker was shot this afternoon by law enforcement officials on the N12 Highway near Comaro Street in Oakdene.

It is believed that two suspects hijacked a 22-wheeler truck this morning. It is also understood that the police and a tracking company picked up a tracking signal from the alleged stolen truck and followed it to the highway.

The police successfully managed to stop the truck partially off the highway. It is understood that the driver of the truck tried to run away for the police.

Paramedics were called to the scene to treat the alleged hijacker with a gunshot wound to his leg. He was in a stable condition and transported under police custody to a nearby hospital. It is not known if any other arrests were made.

Road workers narrowly escaped from the truck stopping on the side of the road. According to the road workers on the scene, they were busy digging a small trench for cables next to the highway when the truck suddenly swerved in their direction. They downed tools quickly and ran for safety. Fortunately no one was injured as the trucked came to a standstill on top of the trench.

The police will be investigating this incident and they have attended the scene.
