Tree House or Tree Car

Paramedics from ER24 attended to a bizarre accident this afternoon on the Christiaan De Wet Drive in Helderkuin. Emergency personnel were amazed by to find a black Tata Indica hanging from its right rear wheel, nose down, from a tree next to the road.

It is understood that the 43 year old female driver might have lost control over her vehicle whilst travelling on Christiaan De Wet towards Hendrik Potgieter Drive and overturned several times. It appears that the vehicle spun up and landed in the tree. The tree stopped the vehicle from falling down an embankment into a river that runs next to the road.

Paramedics from ER24 were the first emergency service on the scene and found the lady hanging face down in her car. Paramedics struggled to gain access to her and had to cut open the windscreen and brake open the door and side panels with rescue tools. An emergency extrication was performed and the lady was removed from the wreckage. Upon removal, it was noticed that she sustained multiple injuries to her face and visible chest injuries.

She was stabilized on the scene by ER24 and rapidly transported to the Life Flora Clinic in a serious, but stable condition.

No other vehicles were involved in the accident. The next of kin has not yet been located.

The Johannesburg Metro Police closed off Christiaan De Wet drive in both directions for approximately two hours during their investigation and the recovery of the vehicle.
