Biker Killed at Gordon

A biker was killed this morning in a chaotic collision on the N1 highway near the Gordon off ramp. Another rider is in a serious condition.

It is understood that the motorbike allegedly collided with a bakkie in the middle lane of the highway sending the bike and its two riders into the side barrier. The bike continued to travel over 200 metres across the highway into a stationary Metro Police vehicle and landed on the opposite side of the highway, facing oncoming traffic.

According to bystanders on the scene, both of the bike's riders were viciously thrown from the bike onto the highway. Paramedics from ER24 Emergency Services that arrived first on the scene tried to resuscitate the woman, but due to the massive injuries she was declared dead on the scene. The driver - believed to be her husband - was treated on the scene for serious injuries and transported by the Provincial Ambulance Services to a nearby hospital for further medical treatment.

A Johannesburg Metro Police vehicle was protecting a stationary bus in the middle lane of the highway when the motorbike continued to skid in its direction. The motorbike collided with the rear end of the Police vehicle. None of the Metro Police Officers were injured.

The Metro Police will be investigating the accident.

The highway was closed and only a part of the fast lane remained open for traffic.
