Cash In Transit Crash

Two people have been injured when their cash in transit vehicle they were travelling in overturned on Main Reef Road near Dobsonville this evening.


Paramedics that arrived on the scene feared for the worst when they saw the overturned cash vehicle. Fire fighters had to use rescue equipment to free one of the trapped occupants of the cash vehicle through the front window and door. He sustained multiple injuries and was stabilized on the scene. Fire fighters struggled over 30 minutes to rescue the man from the vehicle.

A fellow colleague who was in the vehicle at the time of the crash, was stabilized on the scene and treated by Netcare paramedics.

Paramedics from ER24 EMS stabilized the trapped victim and rushed him off to a nearby hospital for further treatment.

According to bystanders on the scene, the cash in transit vehicle and an Audi TT apparently tried to change lanes at the same time and collided with each other. Both of the vehicles lost control and veered off the road into an open veld where the cash van overturned.

The male driver of the Audi did not sustain any injuries, but was assessed on the scene.

The SAPS and JMPD attended the scene whilst the cash was transferred. The Johannesburg Metro Police will be investigating the accident.
