Two Year Old Critical

A two year old boy is in a critical condition after a white VW Jetta overturned this afternoon on the N1 highway near Diepkloof.

Paramedics that arrived on the scene found the Jetta lying in the middle of the highway with five of its occupants outside of the vehicle. It is understood that bystanders pulled all of the occupants from the vehicle shortly after the crash.

A bystander on the scene explained that the vehicle was travelling on the N1 highway towards Maraisburg when it suddenly swerved from the road into the middle island. It collided with a tractor tire filled with sand and overturned several times.

The impact was so great that the sand-filled tire landed about 20 meters from the car.

Paramedics from ER24 EMS, Netcare and Province joined forces to fight for the life of the young boy. It appears that he sustained a serious head injury. The male driver and three other occupants were also treated on the scene for multiple injuries.

All of the occupants were transported to nearby hospitals for further medical treatment.

The exact cause of the accident is not yet known and the Johannesburg Metro Police will be investigating the accident.

Fortunately the vehicle did not collided with oncoming traffic on the highway.
