Quick Action of FireFighters Saved a Life

Quick action of firefighters saved the life on scene of a man that was rescued from his wrecked vehicle on Grayston Drive.

At approximately 12h40 this afternoon ER24 Emergency Services responded to a serious accident in Sandown. On the arrival of paramedics, it was noticed that the Johannesburg Fire Department (Sandton) initiated CPR on - who is believed to be the driver - of a smashed bakkie. The bakkie smashed head on with a tree in the middle of Grayston Drive.

It is understood that the man was pulse less and still trapped behind the steering wheel of his vehicle. The fire department used rescue tools to quickly free the man. Paramedics and fire fighters continued CPR for about 20 minutes before the man regained a pulse. The man was rushed off to the Morningside Medi Clinic in a critical condition for further medical treatment.

Two other occupants from the bakkie were also rescued by the fire department from the vehicle. Both of the men sustained serious injuries and were transported in a stable condition to a nearby hospital.

It is not clear how the accident occurred, but the incident will be investigated by the Johannesburg Metro Police Department.

No other vehicles were involved.
