Driver Rescued from Wreck
The Magoebas Kloof Highway between Polokwane and Tzaneen was closed yesterday evening at approximately 22h25 when a BMW and a Nissan bakkie collided head on in one of the bends.
Five people have been seriously injured. Fire and Rescue Services had to use the jaws-of-life and rescue equipment to free the critical BMW driver from his wreck. It took more than 45 minutes to cut him out. Some of the other occupants were flung from the vehicles and it is unclear how many occupants were traveling in which vehicle at the time.
It appears that the BMW misjudged the bend on the highway and veered into oncoming traffic before colliding head on with the bakkie. Debris were scattered over the highway. The highway had to be closed for more than two hours to rescue the patients and clean up the area.
The patients were all transported by Netcare and Provincial Services. It is unclear at this stage where the vehicles were traveling to.
