Vehicle overturns into oncoming traffic
Last night at approximately 21h20 a silver VW Jetta overturned on the N1 highway between Hans Strijdom and William Nicol Drives.
According to a provincial paramedic, who was traveling behind the Jetta at the time, [they both were traveling on the highway in a southern direction]. According to him the Jetta suddenly swerved and rolled in front of his vehicle into oncoming traffic.
When paramedics assessed the situation, they found two males entrapped in the vehicle that was still lying on its side in the middle of the highway.
Sandton Fire Department had to use the Jaws-of-Life to cut of the roof of the vehicle to free the
two occupants. One of the occupants were outside of the vehicle when paramedics arrived. He sustained minor injuries, and was walking around on scene. Only one of the occupants were transported per ambulance to the Sunninghill hospital. He sustained several injuries and require further medical attention.
The other two occupants were assessed on scene, but they refused hospital transportation.
The highway's fast and middle lane was closed for the duration of the rescue.
